Warner Canyon

Nestled in a small clearing within a forest of giant redwoods, we were brought in to revitalize a difficult to wrangle space. With two distinct conditions - one side in bright light, the other in shadow, one side dry, the other wet, one warm, the other cool… we began with a simple but essential question: shall we gather in the sun or in the shade? On this side or that?

Rather than picking one, we leaned into both. We amplified the disparate conditions, celebrating the contrast and contradiction. We created a meadow in the sun and a woodland garden in the shade, with a deck and patio for gathering that transitions between. The spaces remain distinct, but we’ve woven the edges together.
