Homestead Valley

This project was designed as part of a rebuild of the entire home, going down to the studs, raising the roof over a small addition, and completely reorganizing the interior layout. By considering from the very beginning the relationship between inside and out, we were able to find efficiencies in the small spaces and opened new connections to the outdoors.

In the garden we began by replacing an astroturf lawn with new plants inspired by the nearby Oak and Redwood understory. The soil has been brought back to life, attracting beneficial insects and local wildlife. The garden has become an integral part of the living space, and a source for joy, play and respite. It’s a labor of love, a work in progress, and a place for creatures of all kinds.
