Lucas Valley
This garden was designed for a young family to grow and play in. Perched above Miller Creek in Lucas Valley, the client’s new home had a panoramic view of California’s rolling green hills, just begging to be revealed. Hidden behind an old metal shade structure, a tall fence, and overgrown shrubs, we cleared it all away, opened up the space, and created the conditions to marvel at their view.
At the same time, we invited the landscape in, bringing it closer to the home where it can be touched, and through careful plant and material choices, we established a tangible connection to the surrounding hills. We repurposed a pile of rocks, brought in some chonky timbers, and planted generously with native species. Birds, lizards, and neighborhood kids were soon close behind.
